MIDCOAST SESSIONS - Searsmont, Maine

For about a week before heading out of Maine, no longer with jobs and home, Planets spent time recording with our future band and tour mate Janane Tripp in her small out building on our friends' land in Searsmont, Maine. No running water, no bathroom, no reception, snow, an election, and a pilot light that kept needing to be lit for continual warmth, this is perhaps where we have felt the best in a long time...

The outdoors, the indoors of Janane's little one room home in Maine's midcoast forest...

CK working late at night on backing harmonies for Janane's set...

Ian standing in Janane's small kitchen. With just one burner and no sink, no oven, and very little counter space it took quite a bit of imagination to make dinner every night. Perfect preparation for getting back into van-living. Thank heavens for our propane one burner...

A little Sexy-Back on wax for moments of making breakfast and marathon games of Settlers of Catan...

Janane's bed, tucked in a lofted corner of the room. In the throes of days and days of practice...

Max and Ariane are some real radical genius folk. After years of travel they've settled for the time being in the quiet woods of Searsmont, Maine.  Ariane makes homemade dyes in the kitchen made from berries and mushrooms for linens. Max can recreate any guitar pedal from any era you could possibly desire. Ariane's various pottery projects clutter the floor. Max brings home a truck full of wood in preparation for the coming winter.   Here, in this picture Ariane sits on the couch lovingly combing their dog, Sun Bear, for ticks as Max works on cooking greens for dinner...

Janane, standing here in Max & Ariane's kitchen, has, since moving to this area become fascinated by the local lore of a ghost named Timothy Barrett. Supposedly T.B. was an early settler in these parts, a wild recluse who is said to have lived in a hollow log, with a rafted floating garden on the water. Apparently he was such a hermit that he would relocate his home if even two families came to live within the miles and miles around him...

Soog, Janane's cat, takes a nap in the window with Ahna. Soog is a dog in a feline body, loving attention, taking walks, and endlessly having her belly rubbed. Not, however, a fan of cymbals and bass...
